MAC paint pots are a must have products in any make up artist’s collection. These are long-wearing cream eye shadows which can be used on their own or under other formulas which have a poor pigmentation. Paint pots come in a range of shades but the most famous ones for Indian skin tones are are painterly, constructivist, groundwork and Indianwood. These shades work beautifully with Indian skin tones as eye shadows or primers too. I am going to review and swatch MAC Indianwood Pro Longwear paint pot today.

My Review of MAC Indianwood Paint Pot:

MAC Paint pot in Indianwood comes in a classic black MAC packaging with a screw cap. The glass packaging makes the product bulky to carry and there is always a fear of dropping it and breaking it. Indianwood is described as a metallic antique bronze shade with a frost finish. It is a beautiful bronze gold shade with finely-milled shimmer which looks very metallic on the lids. This shade will look great on Indian skin tones and is a perfect shade for festive makeup.

The texture of mac indianwood is very creamy and smooth without any grittiness. It glides easily on the eyes and blends beautifully. However, you need to be a little quick with the application as this dries fast and that makes it difficult to blend it completely. The pigmentation is exceptional with 9-10 hours with no creasing or fading.

MAC Paint pots are supposed to be used either as primers for other eye shadows or on their own. I use the pro longwear indianwood mostly as an eye shadow when i want a gold metallic look. I also use this as a primer for eye shadows which have poor pigmentation. This is perfect for a smokey eye also when the lower rim is lined with an angled brush. The colour looks a lot deeper when used over this and the staying power also increases.

I mostly use fingers to apply this as eyeshadow as a lot of product is wasted when used with a brush. The quantity of the pro longwear paint pot is much more compared to regular eye shadow which makes it quite long lasting. This mac tub of 5 grams will last for approximately 2 years when used occasionally. I would love if MAC makes smaller packaging so that the product doesn’t waste as this much quantity is very difficult to use in its shelf life.

Maybelline colour Tattoos are the perfect dupe in terms of texture to MAC paint pots. They are one fifth the price and deliver the same results in terms of pigmentation and staying power. However, there is no denying that MAC quality is always the best in cosmetics and this is the reason why many makeup artists swear by this product.

Pros of MAC Indianwood Paint Pot:

• Comes in a glass tub packaging which is difficult to handle.
• Expensive!!
• Has to be blended quickly as it dries fast.
• I wish it came with an applicator.

For your base:

MAC Foundation Dupes:

We’re starting with MAC’s most-loved base product: The Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 ($30) provides an airbrushed matte finish and has notably high coverage.

A great dupe for Studio Fix Fluid is the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation ($7.99), which is just as long-lasting and shine-free for a fraction of the price. L’Oreal’s True Match Foundation ($7.59) is another great option if you’re looking for that flawless base.

MAC Concealer Dupes:

Makeup artists and average folk alike have raved about MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer ($24) for years, but there are cheaper options on the market. I’d recommend the NYX HD Concealer ($4.99) or the Sonia Kashuk All Covered Up Concealer ($9.98) for a similar finish and amount of coverage.

MAC Blush Dupes:

MAC’s Soft & Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish ($34) gives a lit-from-within glow to the face, but you can get the same luminous look from the Wet ‘n’ Wild To Reflect Shimmer Palettes ($5.99) or the ELF Baked Blush in Pinktastic ($4), which is my favorite cheap highlighter — it gives such a pretty sheen!

MAC Setting Spray Dupes:

Back in the early days of Youtube beauty gurus, everyone was dousing their face with a generous spray of MAC Fix+ ($26), but now other brands have released their own setting sprays that lock in your makeup just as well. My personal favorites are the ELF Mist & Set ($3.99), which contains green tea and other beneficial ingredients, and the NYX Dewy Setting Spray ($8.50) for the perfect dewy look.

For your eyes:

And now, the most iconic MAC product of them all — lipstick. MAC has released so many shades that I’m just going to dupe some of the most popular ones here.

Now it wouldn’t be a MAC post if we didn’t mention Ruby Woo ($18.50). This matte blue-red has dominated the red lipstick market for years, but its formula errs on the drying side.

If you want a more moisturizing formula and a cheaper price tag, I’d recommend NYX Full Throttle Lipstick in Up the Bass ($3.49), which has a unique bullet for precise application. A long-wearing liquid lipstick option would be Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lip in Creeper ($6.50), which is slightly warmer than Ruby Woo but just as beautiful.

MAC’s Marrakesh ($18.50) is another of their bestsellers. It’s a unique deep orange-brown that is currently out of stock, but never fear! Colourpop’s Lux Lipstick in Gallop ($7) is a very similar shade and has a nice creamy formula.

I’d say Velvet Teddy ($18.50) is as iconic in the MAC line as Ruby Woo is, and for good reason! It’s a beige nude that complements every skin tone, but luckily for you, Wet ‘n’ Wild also has a wildly popular nude lipstick, Bare It All ($4.28), for a much lower price. I’ll guarantee this will become one of your most-used lipsticks in no time!
